Carers Allowance - time to claim was created by bbzpda
I am full-time carer, with my own major health problems. Due to ongoing issues with my ESA, I think it is perhaps time to try and claim Carers Allowance.
Anyone got any experiences of claiming Carers Allowance?
How long does the process take?
Do they just use a form, or is it like ESA/PIP and they call you in or come and visit you and assess whether you really are caring for the required 35 hours a week.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

You can apply online for CA
www.gov.uk/carers-allowance
There is no assessment.
A claim should take 2-4 weeks but I have seen some reports of it taking much longer.

Thanks.
Is the CA award reviewed on a regular basis?
i.e will they expect you to reapply every year or two, as per ESA?

No there's no review, the award continues as long as you wish to claim and the person you are caring for has a qualifying award.
