Yes, you need to make two simultaneous copies direct to CD or to tape.

Thanks to Gordon and everyone for your advice, especially Whistler re the amount of tapes and batteries you used- that was a lot, more than I'd anticipated. I have borrowed one tape machine but will buy another from Argos (Thanks Jen) and lots of 'C' batteries in case they will not allow an extension cable to be plugged in. (I'll take a circuit breaker for safety too).
Fingers crossed for a clear recording and a good assessment, although I'm anticipating problems as my daughter (with Aspergers) doesn't have a social worker any more, since moving to Uni. I'll let you know how we get on and whether they use any video recordings. Thanks again for all the advice.

Hi there, An update on our assessment. No problem with using our own recording equipment, we took an extension lead (as well as batteries just in case but not needed) and two tape recorders with microphones. The recordings were not good quality, as the assessor kept using her keyboard to type during the assessment, which caused a noise disturbance (clackety sound) drowning out their fairly quiet voices. It has made transcribing the recordings extremely difficult. Next time I'll take a rubber mat or cloth to put underneath the microphones to reduce noise disturbance. I checked with assessor, there was no intention to make a video recording of the assessment. As a support person, I did experience that my contributions were permitted, but not taken much notice of. The assessor (a nurse) only wanted to hear what my daughter had to say and talked over me, although she seemed pleasant, probably just doing her job, trying to enter my daughter's answers onto an unsympathetic computer programme. Unfortunately nearly three months later, we've just heard that despite providing as much info as we could, the DWP have scored my daughter (ASD) with zero points, not only removing her benefit but also her housing benefit (as she is currently a Uni student). So we will request a MR and then a full appeal, as there is nothing to lose. WE now have the ESA C for Work assessment to get through, with probably the same outcome, zero points I can report that when phoning Maximus or any of the DWP phone staff, they've all been very sympathetic and helpful. It is definitely worth explaining any difficulties and asking for extensions or assistance, they have been and helpful. Even with rescheduling her ESA C for Work assessment which she missed (didn't attend) when she didn't receive the appointment letter. DWP accepted her explanation and agreed to offer another assessment date (which we had to reschedule more than once due to dates/ times being unsuitable/ inconvenient. Keep talking, explaining and asking for help rather than assuming they wont be flexible. Thanks everyone for all the advice. Keep up the good fight!
