For your partner to be able to claim Carers Allowance you need a PIP Daily Living award, it does not matter what rate.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Ok thanks

It does get a bit confusing.

From what I've been reading there are two components with two rates.

Daily living – standard rate
Daily living – enhanced rate
Mobility – standard rate
Mobility – enhanced rate

It seems like if you are awarded anything then it starts with the daily living-standard rate but then enhanced rate and if you qualify then mobility...etc

Am I understanding this right?

If so are you saying I would be able to have a carer even at the daily living-standard rate?

It makes more sense now why you said It would help my partner if I claim pip in the beginning of this thread now.

It's because as long at I get any pip award my partner can be my carer.

The DWP have made the benifits system so confusing, it's a good job we have this forum ;)

I keep reading that pip is just an add on benefit.

But what would be the main benefit now they have done away with ESA and income support?

PIP is not an "add on" benefit it is stand alone and nothing to do with ESA, Income Support or Universal Credit, just as DLA was.

Oh ok

I read that pip runs alongside :

Housing Benefit
Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income Support
Working Tax Credit
Employment and Support Allowance - but only if you get the PIP daily living component
Pension Credit - but only if you get the PIP daily living component

But I guessed that it was old information as it mentions esa, jsa and income support.

So the pip would be the main benefit?
I thought maybe there would be a special type of UC.
