the dreaded UC and carers allowance

Hi, I recently reported a change of circumstance with informing the DWP that my partner was moving in with me and unfortunately we have been whipped onto universal credit, my previous benefit was Income support. I am a full time carer to my disabled daughter, who is receiving high rate care & mobility DLA, can you please tell if this will affect my carers allowance?

Also I myself am in receipt of standard rate care and low rate mobility PIP and I was receiving the severe disability premium attached to my income support, will this now stop as my partner has moved in? And also would he then be able to apply for carers allowance to care for me, or is there another care type premium he could apply for? Sorry just to add my partner is currently signed off sick from work and he is claiming ESA, and he himself is on the high rate mobility PIP.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, very confused and rather scared of this UC situation aaahhh,

Thanks :(

Based on your post I can't see any reason why you were required to claim UC, however, having done so you are now stuck on it unless the DWP accept that they advised you incorrectly. Consider a formal complaint to the DWP.

I'm afraid there are no premiums payable under Universal Credit, you would likely have qualified for the couples rate of the SD Premium! Your partner can claim Carers Allowance but it will be treated as income and deducted from your UC, however, a Carers Element will be added to your UC increasing your payments by £156.45 a month.

However, I would wait, there are changes to the UC legislation that are planned that should mean that you will receive a payment for the missed SDP. There are potential delays to the process but it is currently expected to be enacted in mid January.

You might want to get face to face advice from a trained advisor about the difference it could make to your UC.
