Physical or mental? was created by dab1
My daughter suffers from severe epilepsy - you may have seen the recent ch4 '24hrs in A+E' about her.
She is being asked to fill in an ESA form.
Is epilepsy a physical or mental illness for the sake of ESA? I ask because under the physical criteria on the form she can do all the tasks they ask about (unless she is having a seizure) Its just that she has been admitted to ICU 15 times in the last 18mths.
How do I fill in the form????
Thanks for your help

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Epilepsy is classed as a physical condition.

Be aware that the ESA activity that covers this does not lead to the Support Group, you will need to show that she meets the Substantial Risk criteria, see our ESA Claim guides for an explanation of this.
