I do apologise. I did not mean it as financial advice but merely as an avenue to explore. Sorry.

There's no problem with your post, I was just making it clear that any advice needs to be confirmed by a licensed advisor.

thank you Gordon
My pension that I can take at 60, can be deferred
it wont get any bigger (other than inflation) because I am not working/paying into it
but on its own it would not be enough to live on until state pension kicks in - which for me will be when I am 67 !!
so I was hoping to defer it until then

if you are able to direct me to the legislation that supports this I would be most grateful as I have found DM notes that say what you said, but then others that seem to say it must be taken when eligible, or it would be counted as notional income

many thanks

I looked it up in the Decision Maker's guide but it was some time ago and I don't remember the chapter. The guide will have a reference to the actual legislation.

Thank you dixi, I wish I could turn it all into a lump sum to avoid having my benefit chopped. It's a local government pension from years ago so I doubt they would let me do that! The answer I got was that I could not just have a lump sum, I must have all or nothing at a reduced rate. Then I was told the adviser was on holiday until June 24th. It's not even £1,000 per year!

It would really help me at the moment as my rent is about to increase and I don't get full housing benefit anyway. On top of other benefit cuts it's just another problem to cope with in our world. I will ask though.
