OCD and "Reliably" was created by Ultravox
Hi,
Reading through the PIP notes I noted the word "reliably" Page 15, and the terms Safely, to a necessary and acceptable standard, repeatefly, in a reasonable time period.....
The thing is with my OCD I check doors, windows, taps, gas stove, fridge, freezer, electrical switches....the list goes on.
The Majority of days it takes me 3-4 hours to leave the house and if I get distracted during my rituals and checking the process starts from scratch again. On really bad days when my depression is bad and my anxiety so high that I just can not leave the house through my checking. My point being is it possible I could score points on an activity as because I couldn't complete a descriptor to a necessary standard or in reasonable time period or does it have to be all four including safely and repeatedly? Although I wouldn't expect a yes or no answer, is it likely I would score points on the Going Out activity 13(e) as well. Although with my OCD and associated depression I think I could applyit to most of the descriptors. Thanks for any advice. Rob.

No, you don't need to meet all four of the "reliability" terms to meet the requirement, one or more is sufficient.

I think that you will struggle to score for the Going Out activity, ultimately the test is whether you can go out or not, however long it might take you to do so, I assume that once you have completed your rituals that you can do this.

Although explaining your rituals will be important to your scoring for (e) and in particular how long they take, you will need to show that you would suffer "overwhelming psychological distress" if pressured to go out before you had completed them in order to meet the legally defined criteria.

Hi Gordon,
Just one last thought, if, as it does take me 3-4 hours to leave the house due to checking and rituals(on a very good day) could it not be said that I cannot leave the house in a reasonable timescale so cannot "reliably" manage to leave the house at all. With the OCD causing Overwhelming Psychological Distress(which in my case I feel it does).
Kind regards, Rob.

All you can do us make your arguments but be aware that assessors are told that any day in which the claimant can leave the house, whatever has happened previously during the day is a day that does not count towards the Descriptor.
