PIP. Urgent questions about the 'going out' part was created by asc6670
please help, i truly don't know how to answer the questions about going out, apart from the last question that asks you if you cant go outdoors.
How do i answer all the other questions about going out?
im severe agoraphobic, with complex and multiple mental health and physical disabilities.
i do try and attend the pain clinic once a year 'if' i can, but they are very understanding if i can't.
otherwise i do not go out at all and am housebound.
so please? can people advise what i should put as an answer or what boxes do i tick or even leave blank
(even my drs are confused by the form)
to all the questions about the 'going out' part on the PIP form.
please can you be clear and stuff as i find understanding things so hard, so please be understanding with me and clear on all answers or boxes i should tick/leave blank. on all the questions in that part of the form
thank yyou

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
Have you looked at our PIP Claim guide? See
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip
The Going Out activity looks at three things.
Planning a route - this is primarily a cognitive or sensory (e.g. blindness) activity. You are being asked about the problems you would have with working out how to get from one place to another, you do not need to be able to follow the route that you are planning.
Undertaking a Journey - this is to do with mental health issues such as agoraphobia and social anxiety and is concerned with you leaving the house to go somewhere, they will be interested in the things that stop you doing this. You need to show that you would suffer "overwhelming psychological distress" to meet the criteria.
Following a route - This activity about the problems you would have navigating a route. So are there problems; cognitive, sensory or mental health issues that would prevent you from doing this? This is different from undertaking a journey, in fact, if you cannot undertake a journey then you will not score points for following one and vice versa.
From your post, you would seem to have problems with undertaking a journey due to your Agoraphobia.

thank you gordon.
i have agoraphobia a lot of mental health problems and lack of mobility due to pain.
yes, down loaded read all the pdfs but am still finding this part difficult and do not know whether to tick or not tick boxes on all 10 questions
[apart from the last no 10 question as yes, i can tick that and explain all reasons].
but how do i answer questions 1 - 9 ? do i leave all un ticked / blank?
'if' i do go out just once a year, [depending on all my health, both mentally and physically,]
i need a lot of help in to do, and is all very over whelming , pain wise and lots of panic attacks, fear etc on top.
so do i explain this on the last question no 10, or / and on any questions 1 - 9 too ?
hoping i make sense

Hi Asc6670
It is impossible for us to say which questions you should answer - however, you say that you suffer from mobility difficulties due to pain. Does this have an impact on your ability to cook a basic meal? Does it have an impact on your ability to shower or bath and get dressed? Does your agoraphobia - mean that you are not able to engage socially with other people? Only you know the answer to the questions. You need to look at each one and consider whether the difficulties you have fit against the PIP criteria. If you need assistance - not just to go out, but for anything else you need to say so.

Hello asc6670.
I am just working my way through my very first DLA transition to PIP. I admit that it seems like a huge task to complete the 40 page questionnaire but if you are able to take a moment to catch your breath and calm yourself, it may not be such an overwhelmingly daunting task.
I’ve been slowly working my way through my questionnaire and have reached question 14-C. Instead of getting completely stressed and distracted by the size of the task and the mere 98 pages of the B&W PIP guide, I concentrated on only the question in front of me, just one small step at a time. When brain fog descended I made myself have a break and do something nice, I have 2 kittens and they are really very nice, if a bit distracting.
Another thing I did was use the 6 core questions listed by B&W which helped to make me focus on the question in hand. If you check out the bottom of page 28 you’ll see the 6 questions “ If you’re struggling to know how to give detailed evidence for this activity etc” Sorry I’ve gone on a bit, but you’re not alone and the B&W team are really good at helping out with the answers to pretty much any question. Good luck with your form filling. Sue
