Providing the expenditure is reasonable and there is no suspicion that it has been done with the intention of retaining benefits that would otherwise not be payable.

So, purchases related to your health will be OK as will replacing items but spending a £1000 on gold Sovereigns probably won't, such purchases will likely be deemed as Deprivation of Capital and you will still be considered as still being in possession of the money.

We are abit annoyed as we have only just made a joint claim after being separated for a while and we were both saving for our daughters wedding but now we are making a joint claim we did not realise both savings would be added together so don't think this would be classed as acceptable so how would buying a funeral plan be looked on ?
