Out of the blue PIP extension letter was created by phrank
Hi there,

I need some advice, please.

Out of the blue I have just received a letter extending my current award from June 2021 to March 2022. That's a 9 month extension?

Obviously this is due to the Coronavirus pandemic but I dind't expect a letter before this December - or with such a long extension.

Does this mean I shouldn't recieve a review letter until around September 2021 given the fact that they were sending out these around 6 months before award end dates?

Also the new extension to my award takes me past state pension age as I will be 66 when the award date ends. Does this mean I should now receive correspondence saying my award is an ongoing award?

Finally if the answer is yes, is it worth me phoning the helpline to try to clear things up?

Any adivice from anyone would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Phrank.

Hi Phrank

It is impossible to say at this stage when they will send out the review form because some people have been given extensions and then found the review form has arrived earlier than expected. You would expect if you are 66 at the time of the next review you should get a light touch review and they will contact you about it.

You can always ring and clarify.

Thanks, Bis.

Am on phone to them now. It just seems strange that the award clearly states extended to March 2022, that definitely puts me in the state pension category, and it's a 10 month extension not 6 months as most are reporting

Hi everyone,

I've just come off the phone to the PIP helpline.

The guy said they were so far behind that awards due to end the first half of next year are being extended by 9 months. He also said it was very possible that further extensions may be needed after that.

Hope this helps,

Phrank

Hi Phrank,

It must be like winning the lottery, I hope they give me an extension, mine is due to end in June 21, so I'm pretty close to the re- review assessment again. Such a bind best just to extend it for a couple of years.

I have just received a similar extension letter. At first I was a little confused as my award was due to end on January 9th and in the last 4 weeks, I have been pushing for the award review form (which had not been sent out).

I finally received the review form and promptly sent it back. This extension letter was sent out 3 days after the DWP received my completed form.

This letter does alleviate my anxiety regarding the award ending before my review could be processed. As I have already sent the review form back; I'm just going to take it that the DWP now have 12 months rather than 3 months to process my review.
