Pip telephone assessment - new medical diagnosis. was created by Daisydream
Having my pip telephone assessment on 20th jan. Had x-rays on 7th jan on my knee. Results were transferred to my GP the same day, diagnosis of osteoarthritis on both knees the Right being a lot worse. Do I need to inform DWP or Capita of this new diagnosis to be added to my medical evidence or should I just wait until the health professional calls me from Capita. Your earliest reply would be appreciated. Many thanks. Glenda

Hi Daisydream
If you documented on your form that you had trouble with your knees which you were waiting to be investigated and it has been ongoing for at least three months, you can mention it to the assessor and they will make a judgement about it. You could send off a letter now, but the chances of your letter and notes being collated in time - isn't very likely - but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.
If you didn't say anything before then you can mention it, but they will probably ignore it as it was not a problem at the time you sent in the form and that's what they're assessing. Then you would have to put in a change of circumstances request at a later date.

Hi Bis,
Just checked my copies and yes it is down on my Pip Award Review forms Nov 2020 as suffering with Bursitis/Tendonitis of the knee since 2019 because that’s what the GP had said.
With it now being investigated with x-rays last week and a proper diagnosis of osteoarthritis of the knees. Would you
suggest contacting both the DWP and Capita to advise them of this?

As I said in my previous post - it's up to you whether you send a letter prior. You can do so - it may just not get connected to your notes. But you have nothing to lose but the price of the postage and your time. The problem I see, is that if you only get that diagnosis of osteoarthritis last week - you may have trouble getting them to take notice of it, especially as you probably don't have the specialists letter confirming the severity and long-term prognosis yet.
