HI BIS
Thanks for coming back to me, thats made it a bit clearer. Surely, it would be less resources and time on their part to offer a somewhat longer award? Rather than having to do all the assessment and paperwork again. But who knows?,
For my award to be extended I’d have to go for appeal, as it’s already gone through a MR to get the enhanced rate of DL.
Have many members been successful at appeal stage for a longer award?

Hi KPPurple
You can certainly appeal against the length of your PIP award. I can't tell you what your chances of success are. I have seen several members of B&W saying the tribunal didn't increase the length of their award. I personally know of only two people who have been successful at the Appeal stage.

Hi, I don't know if this will help or be relevant to your situation but I did read somewhere that sometimes short awards are given if they expect you will be able to adapt to your limitations over time. They therefore may not necessarily expect your condition to improve but that you may find ways of coping with it that reduce your limitations.
If appealing the award length it may be worth thinking about stressing that you have adapted to your limitations as much as you can. Just a thought that I hope may help.
All good wishes to you

Hi, I have asked at Appeal and renewal for a longer award as our daughters main conditions are genetic with no prospect of improvement, only gradual deterioration with age which is already happening and she's not yet 30, and this has been ignored both times. She's already got all the adjustments going, so we don't see how her ability to achieve the descriptors will improve. But they appear to care more about trying to reduce what they pay out by hostility and sorry to say outright lies, than knowing when they have got a genuine longterm claimant and should stop, as said, wasting taxpayers money on this nasty behaviour of short awards and so on. Best, Denby

Hi
I have spoken to an advisor I’m working with a sight loss charity, she thinks there’s grounds to go for an 5 year award and it’ll be up to us to prove that my vision will either stay the same or detoriate.
The advisor thinks they may review my case without going to appeal. When she phoned up there was no reasoning provided for the 3 year award.
The advisor said that essentially if I don’t appeal and they review me in 3 years time - it’s essentially a new pip claim even though they call it a review. I’ll still have to complete a form, submit evidence and attend a medical where a new decision will be made. Is this correct?
If I appeal and the award is for longer I’ll still have to make a new application and through it all again.
The advisor thinks a 3 year award was made because cataract surgery may / may not improve things.
I guess I’m trying to figure out should I let it go to review in 3 years or appeal for a longer award? If it’s essentially delaying the inventitable of applying for pip again.
Sorry this post is so waffly.
If anyone has any thoughts that would be great.

Hi KPPurple
Only you can decided if you want to appeal or wait until you are re-assessed (review) in a few years time and then on the review form explain that your condition is on going and will not improve with out cataract surgery.
I would say that your adviser was correct in their thinking about cataract surgery.
The trouble with appeals is that you can never know for certain which way the decision will go, most appeals will take quite a while to be listed, prior to covid it was taking over one year in some areas.
