Hi Gary
I’m trying to figure out what the advantages are of going to appeal to get a longer award? Or wait until the review is up?

Is there any advantages of going to appeal for a longer award?

Do they treat each pip application as a new application - whether it’s a review or a new application?

I think that’s what’s confusing- is this the review seen as a continuation of the same application or a new claim?

Hi KPPurple

I do not see an advantage of going to a tribunal to try and get a longer award for the following reasons:
~ You cannot guarantee what decision the tribunal will give, they may even reduce the award or even stop it.
~ Prior to Covid, appeals in some areas were taking over a year to be listed.
~ Whilst waiting for the appeal, it increases your stress and anxiety

A review is seen as a continuation but it is not, the review form is smaller in size than the original PIP form, we always advise claimants to complete the review as if you were making a new claim but check out our guides. If you follow the link below it will tell you what you need to know about completing the PIP review.

Hi Gary
Thanks for coming back to me. One thing I wanted to check as I’m not sure of. If at review stage in a few years time they stop or reduce my award. Would I have to pay the difference / amount back?

Hi KPPurple

The answer to your question is NO.

When you are reviewed in a few years time if they reduce your award then it is reduced from the date of the new decision and not from the date of your previous decision.
