Thank you BIS, I'm glad you agree and that I was thinking along the right lines.

As suggested I've sent in a letter which will hopefully be taken into consideration alongside the assessor's report. It was received by the DWP this morning - would anyone be aware if I should get a text to confirm receipt/consideration or will I have to give them a ring? (Or third option - they've got it because it was signed for and no more needs to be done...I'll be delighted if this is the case but suspect it's unlikely!)

Pulling together the letter has, if nothing else, given me a good starting point for pulling together my information for a Mandatory Reconsideration (should it be needed). I hadn't appreciated that this (the letter in advance of decision) was an option before coming on here - so huge thanks again for that.

I'll now wait for the decision letter to come through without stressing because I know that I've done all I can - for now at least. Thanks again folks :)

Hi Catherine, I am not sure if there has been another case after this one that says differently but I think this is where the car issue comes from, ..... Decision number C25/18-19(PIP)

Are you aware of any updates from this decision and whether the ability to drive can be used against other descriptors?

Thanks

Hi Lindsey

Thank you for your information, an interesting read : para 19. Ability to drive a car is dependent on certain functional and cognitive abilities. Among other things, it requires the ability to open the door and enter and exit the vehicle; to sit without changing position for a period of time; to use the hands to grip and turn the controls and to make nuanced arm movements to steer; to use the feet on pedals to accelerate and brake, and to use the clutch in a manual car; to move the upper body and neck flexibly to look around; to be able to plan a journey and respond to unpredictable circumstances and road conditions; and to have adequate vision and reactions to drive safely.

I have been on pipinfo website and came across the following case JC v SSWP (PIP) [2019]
CPIP/2477/2018. JC v SSWP (PIP) [2019] UKUT 181 (AAC) assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5...PIP_2477_2018-00.pdf

5. I also give permission to appeal on the ground concerning mobility activity 1. In addition to the points raised in the grounds concerning use of the car (and Satnav etc), did the tribunal err materially in law in failing to address the point made in the submission made on page 102 about the PIP Assessment Guide and the ability to use public transport? In other words, did the tribunal err in law in concluding that an ability to follow an unfamiliar route whilst driving a car on her own meant the appellant could not satisfy either ‘following a route’ scoring descriptor under mobility activity 1?”

I attended an appeal 18 months ago and the above arguement was used to get the claimant std daily living and mobility.

Just wanted to point out one thing re: "bending down to get hot trays out of the oven" Use of the oven isn't assessed for the cooking question.
