How long to wait for PIP? was created by Finni
My new PIP application was recieved by the DWP 14 weeks ago.
A couple of weeks ago the application hadn't even been started, according to the person I rang. They also said there was nothing they could do to speed it up. They further suggested that as PIP isn't an income-related benefit that it may not get priority speedy handling when times are busy.
They said all I could do was make a formal complaint but that wouldn't change the processing time.
What can I do to get this handled faster? Are there no rules on expediting an assessment when it gets this late?
---
Background: the DWP passed my claim on to Independent medical Services (formerly ATOS) at Wolverhampton. My medical history of years of severe symptoms is well documented and I'm half hoping the letters I enclosed will reduce the need for a telephone interview. For this reason I don't want to rock the boat by upsetting anyone too much.

Hi Finni
There isn't anything you can do to speed up the process. Your papers have been moved on and are therefore are in the system. I understand your frustration, but unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. There is no time limit on when they have to complete the process.

I believe PIP will continue to be paid if it's awarded before state pension age.
I retire in November and wonder if this my current slow PIP claim is rejected and I subsequently appeal, then do I have to WIN the appeal before November to have PIP continue into retirement?
Or is the initial date of my application what counts for this reckoning, even if it eventually gets awarded after my retirement date?
I hope I explained that clearly! Thank you for any info.

Hello Finni,
It is the date of your initial application which counts.
Hopefully you will get the right result long before November,
Catherine
