carers allowance and ni credits was created by reds123
hi mods my wife is in the process of notifying carers dept that she is no longer able to do 35 hours care looking after me due her own health problems and the care is now shared between herself and close family so we will also write to esa and request another sdp payment be added to my claim as we only receive one sdp at present. as we are both on pip and will hopefully get the other sdp payment ,will she continue to get ni credits after we end her carers allowance claim. or should i wait another week so she qualifies for this years ni credits , sorry for long question hope you understand me, many thanks bb.

Hi british bulldog
If you’re not able to work due to an illness or disability, then you can get National Insurance credits automatically if you receive Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Employability Supplement or Allowance.

thanks gary, i am on esa support group and my wife was on carers allowance she works part time 5 hours per week, she is on pip standard rate both elements, do i now need to fill in a carers credit form now she is no longer on carers allowance or will she automatically qualify for the ni credits. i can not get my head around the rules , she can not work more than 5 hours due to her own disabilities and i think she is included in my esa claim but has her own pip claim, hope this makes sense..many thanks bb

Hi british bulldog
Your wife could get Carer’s Credit if she is caring for someone for at least 20 hours a week. You can contact the Carer’s Allowance Unit, Telephone: 0800 731 0297 and ask them.

Carer’s Credit is a National Insurance credit that helps with gaps in your National Insurance record. Your State Pension is based on your National Insurance record.
