Hi can you please advise, i will be applying for New style ESA and U/C I am wanting to apply on the 1st April, the anxiety is overwhelming i have just been told I can t speak to my doctor till the 6th of April, can I still apply and just get my Doctor to back date sick notes? or will I need to say what is on the sick note on the form beforehand? Thank you for all your help. Sam

Hi sam
I would apply for UC straight away, on your journal send a message to your work coach that you are waiting for a 'Fit note' from your doctor. If you don’t have one yet, you’ll have 7 days from the date you submit your claim to get a fit note and put the details into your account.
I don't see any issues in asking your GP to backdate the fit note to an earlier period as you were unable to get an appointment through no fault of your own.
You may want to contact your GP practice and tell them you need a fit note.
You have to apply for UC first before a UC50 form is sent out by your workcoach.

Big thank you Gary, all very confusing especially being Dyslexic, I did not know about a work coach , I do also have a lot of medical evidence to submit to help my claim, I assume I send them in after . I get the standard rate pip for both,
Thank you for the support. sorry if I repeat myself but how long after should I apply for new style esa? memory not good too.
Thank you

Hi sam
Click on the NS ESA link I sent you in a previous post.
You will be sent a form called a UC50 form to complete, you can send in your medical evidence with the form, including your 'fit note', make sure you make copies of the medical evidence and put your name and national insurance on each piece of medical evidence.
Check out our guides on how to complete a UC50 form. Our UC and ESA claim guide explains the criteria that you will need to meet.
