Are my ESA benefits still enhanced by ceased DLA? was created by Finni
Can someone kindly check the amounts I get for ESA as I think they are incorrect, due to my former DLA lapsing.
(1) Years ago I used to get Income Support (based on Incapacity Benefit) and Disability Living Allowance.
(2) The Income Support later became income-based ESA and I am in the support group.
(3) When DLA was abolished I did not re-apply for PIP. I wonder if I am still getting additional ESA payments which started when I was getting DLA.
Can anyone confirm the amounts below are correct. They are taken from a DWP letter for 2020 to 2021:
Living expenses: £74.70
Extra money because of Disability Income Guarantee: £17.20
Extra money because you are in the Support Group: £39.40
This gives a total income related amount of: £131.10
Your income related amount is £131.10 less total income of £0, so your income related entitlement is £177.35
Top up payment: £46.05
Your total income-related benefit entitlement is: £177.35

Hi Finni
I do not have enough information to give you a definitive answer:
This is correct:
Living expenses: £74.70
Extra money because of Disability Income Guarantee: £17.20
Extra money because you are in the Support Group: £39.40
This gives a total income related amount of: £131.10
I do not know where the Top up comes from, I have looked at the latest benefit details for means and non means tested but no figure for £46.05
Top up payment: £46.05
Your total income-related benefit entitlement is: £177.35
I would contact DWP and ask them. The first total is correct (£131.10), I do not know where the figure for the second total comes from (£177.35), a difference of £46.25.
If you find out let us know.
Gary

I'm now applying for PIP, so those ESA figure will change once more but I do wonder if I managed to keep some disability uplifts in my ESA aftewr my DLA was stopped around 2018.
I forgot to mention I had been awarded Higher Rate Care and Lower rate Mobility for my DLA when my DLA was stopped. I don't know if that gives a clue.

Hi Finni
I did check different combinations such as SDP payment but the figures do not work out.
Your ESA calculations are correct, what I do not know is what the top up is for.
You need to contact DWP and ask for a breakdown.

Hi Finni,
Can you clarify when you started on ESA, Income Support and Incapacity Benefit. I'm wondering if there is a historic top-up?
