NHS and data for sale? was created by freefee
this has not been in the press much, but i would assume most people would be aware of what is happening to some extent, we have until 23rd June to opt out, as far as I am aware the DWP does not look at medical records, but before I opt out, I just wanted to be sure this would not affect my benefits, I receive ESA support group contribution based and PIP, thanks for any advice in advance, or even just opinions

Hello freefee,

This is not something I know anything about but have approved your post so that other members of our community can give their views.

When you complete one of the DWP you are asked if you give consent for them to contact your GP, so I would have guessed that would have over ridden anything else. But that is only a guess.

Hi freefee

Many people unfortunately do not know anything at all about this scheme but owing to concerns about privacy it will not now start until 1st September this year. Some people, including myself, actually opted out of this type of NHS data sharing some years ago under a previous scheme and my understanding is that my opt-out will remain valid under the new scheme. Your ESA and PIP will not be affected if you opt out of the new scheme as it covers data transfer for entirely different purposes than the administration of benefit claims. I too am on ESA and PIP and these are entirely unaffected by my decision to opt out of NHS data sharing. For latest details of this scheme please click the following link to an article in today's Guardian, www.theguardian.com/society/2021/jun/08/...delayed-to-september

I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Mr B
