PIP Review - Delays? was created by goatbadger
Hello,
Anyone know what normal handling times are for a PIP Review/Renewal at the moment?
It's now over 5 months since I sent my review form/evidence back in mid-Jan. I got a text (March I think) saying received and have heard nothing since. I haven't had any assessment appointment yet.
Is this the norm right now? I assume it is and they have a big covid backlog... but just finding the wait worrying so any insight on wait times appreciated.
Thanks
Glen

Hi gbU82
We can't give you any accurate timescales because there seem to be huge discrepancies. We've had some people have their cases done and dusted within one week and people like you who have been waiting months. Some people have recently been told its 8 weeks. If you can bear it I would put in a call to the DWP and ask them what is happening - you may get more of an idea of your own case.

Hi
just as a matter of interest, I,ve been waiting for my 1st assessment for a full year now, I have had no confirmation of forms received (I did send recorded delivery) and on my online U.C. account, it still says "we are assessing your case & you do not need to contact us" or words to that effect

Thanks very much for replying BIS, appreciated.
Just called them. 1 hr 10 mins to get through. Thought I'd pop back and share what I was told in case helps others here who find these things stressful or worry waiting too:
1. My case is still with the assessment provider - no update on DWP system since February.
2. Told me assessment service "running on skeleton staff", and DWP call handlers been told to stop giving out their direct number as they just pass people back to DWP, both sides unable to give any idea of time frame.
3. She told me there is a big backlog and to just wait until I hear from them in an unspecified time . . . (Payments will continue as normal). So I shall do just that
Why they can't publish online that there are significant delays or as a recording on the phone line - before waiting over an hour to be told what they are probably having to tell many people daily - is beyond me.

Same here, been waiting months for the process to conclude, had the call and filled in the forms - sent in Feb by recorded delivery. I find it helpful to browse this forum, steadies the nerves and provides info that is of use if the need to appeal arises. I also get support from sites that centre on health issues, many members have been through the PIP process. Fingers crossed for both of us - I'm reading the members guides on here to prepare for the worst - I always anticipate the worst and if it isn't bad news the subscription to this site will help others in the same boat.

Hi Terry
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
A year seems to be quite excessive, I would contact UC helpline 0800 328 9344 to see what is going on, I assume you are talking about a Work Capability Assessment?
