Hi Agis

In answer to your question, your doctor can give you an indefinite 'fit note' but it would depend on your condition(s).

As long as on the day you make a claim for UC you are still entitled to IR ESA, the equivalent UC element to the component that was included with your ESA claim should be transferred to your UC claim and included in the assessment.

If you are receiving IR ESA, this should stop from the day before the date of your UC award starts (although you may be entitled to a run on), however the payments of IR ESA don't always stop when they should, meaning that you may be overpaid.

As you are receiving CB ESA/NS ESA then this should continue in payment with UC as a top up and the equivalent UC Element to the component that is included with their ESA claim should be included in their UC assessment.

The move onto UC from ESA can trigger a whole new Work Capability Assessment, even where the claimant has only recently been through the process or has several years to go until they are due to be renewed.

I asked my GP for an Indefinate Sick Note, but he said he can't supply that. He said he will fill out the forms from DWP to give my full condtions when they send it.
I think perhaps Indefinate Sick Notes are very difficult to attain - a friend told me a terminally ill cancer patient she knew couldn't get one either, and had to send in monthly SN's.

The problem is the GPs don’t understand or want to (can’t blame them) understand the benefits system. Twenty years ago, we were sending in sick notes every month for my husband. It took our time and money (petrol) collecting them and the GP’s time writing one. Resources on both sides which could have been better spent. We discussed this with the GP, and he provided a 12-month sick note. He said the DWP would soon start shouting if the note was incorrect. Within weeks the DWP sent us a letter saying they didn’t require any more sick notes.

Hi Agis

You have to complete the whole form on line which will ask you what benefits you are receiving, as a cautionary note you should ask your Dr for a 'fit note' to give to your workcoach.

Once you have applied for UC, you can add a note in your journal that you are in receipt of CB ESA.

Why do you have to provide a fit note if you are already in the Support Group?

Hi Gary,

Do you need to provide a fit note if you are in receipt of New Style ESA? I was awarded LCWRA and I am in the Support Group. I am about to move and will need to apply for UC Housing Element to get help with the rent.

Are you saying as a cautionary note it is better to provide a fit note even though it is not required?

Thanks,

organic
