Hi, I know this is not the place for this but I thought someone out there may have an answer to my situation. I applied to Sheltered housing 4 years ago, since my PE in both lungs I am frightened as I have sustained several falls over the past 10 months. My Gp has provided the sheltered housing with a very detailed letter but I never hear or get offered a flat. If there is anything anyone can offer that I could be doing I would be so grateful.
Kindest regards
Teresa

Hi Souter,
Have you tried contacting your local authority Housing Officer?

Hi, our daughter kept bidding for bungalows and flats for 3 years after being given an OT letter firmly saying she should be allocated a property without stairs and heard nothing. In the end I egged her into contacting the office to explain to a human being and they then lifted the 50+ only bar on her. She fairly soon got an admittedly neglected bungalow which is now a decent home for her. So it may be worth trying to contact the office as LL26 says and explain your ever-increasing need.
Best wishes,
Denby

Hi Souter

Most properties are let via choice based lettings and you have to bid for a property, you can sometimes get a management move depending on your circumstances or you can use Home Swapper if you have a home to swap: www.homeswapper.co.uk

If you can get your MP to write a supporting letter you may get bumped up the list.

As Denby has stated below you do need supporting letters from an OT as well as your MP and your Dr, it all helps.

Hi Souter… you need to push them all the way. Be as pro-active as you can chasing them etc. Also look at ALL Housing Associations in your area to see what sheltered accommodation they provide. Apply to the council to get ‘PRIORITY’ for rehousing. You will need to get an appointment with ‘Housing Advice’. There you can explain your situation.

You can get on a housing list with the council, and also on separate ones with different housing associations. The PRIORITY letter from the council will really help with this. Also get as much information to support your application that you can.

There are waiting lists everywhere, but you really need to push for things. Housing Associations and the council have ‘bidding systems’ now. Your surgery may have a support service to help with this. Good luck xx

Shelter also have a helpline if you are really stuck x
