Refused New Style ESA was created by autistic-gremlin
Hello,
I have been trying to claim new style ESA since Jan of this year.
I have been rejected out of hand twice due to not having NI contributions.
I have been out of work since January and applied both then and in the new tax year (about two weeks ago - just got a rejection letter today).
My work history for the last three years is:
2020/2021 - no work
2021/2022 - full NI contributions from paid employemtn
2022/2023 - not yet updated online but I was employed and shouhave more than enough paid NI.
The issue I am having is they are using 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 to assess my contributions and are saying I dont have two years.
I agree that I dont have the NI in 2020/2021 but I DO have it in the most recent two years which is what I thought they should use?
I am at a loss as to how to proceed here - any help apprecited.
Thank you in advace

I'm afraid the DWP are correct.
The two Tax Years used for a new claim of New Style ESA are currently 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, for a claim made last year they would be one year earlier.

Thank you for the quick reply. At what stage will they use the year 2022-2023?
Many thanks.

You won't be able to use 2022-23 until on or after the first Monday in 2024.
