Social Anxiety - Engaging with others face to face was created by Anxious Anonymous
Hello,

I am very curious about social anxiety and agoraphobia and this descriptor.

If you can talk to medical professionals but need to be in the presence of your social support, so partner/friend etc and they have to calm you down. Will you score points? Even if you can strike a conversation.

What if you avoid face to face majority of the time and speak to medical professionals by telephone instead.

Please give me some examples because I scored 2 last time but it’s making me think I will score 0.

But talking to people face to face gives me palpitations, tremors that I have to hide, feelings of panic and worries I’ll have a seizure and end up embarrassed.

It seems to me that you understand the task already, the issues you have as described in your last paragraph are exactly those that I would expect you to score points.

The only issue I would raise is the context of the test. this activity is about social interaction so I would not include meetings with medical professionals as an example.

Better examples might be meeting friends, a family reunion, Christmas.

Based on my description. How many points do you think I should be able to score?

I only scored 2 last time and that was for prompting. I thought I would score 4 but the person who helps me engage isn’t ‘trained’.

We're not assessors and we only have a few lines about your problems in your previous posts to go by so I for one do not feel adequate to answer the question of how many points you might score.

If you scored two then to score higher you are going to need to show that you need Social Support. The rules have changed and it is now possible for family and friends to provide this for you but you will need to go into depth in explaining what they provide for you and why you need it.

hi with your query regarding engaging with others. There is overlapping between Prompting and Social Support. you can say that a family member helps you prepare mentally both before and after any engagement as without this you would therefore be unable to socially engage with others to an acceptable standard. The DM should therefore accept that your family member would be giving you more than prompting they would be giving you Social Support to help you engage with others of which would also force them to look at Descriptor 9C 4 points of which was a debate in a Judical Review regarding the SSWP v MM case and Pip reg 7(1)(c) of assistance.

Here's a real life scenario.

I have a group of friends who I don't see anymore. I avoid them because of panic, fear, seizures symptoms.

My friend drove me to where they play to see them late at night. He encouraged me, prompted me, told me everything would be okay and I will stand with you while you talk to them and if you feel uncomfortable we will leave.

I'm wondering if that's 2 points or 4 points. I also don't socialise anymore with previous friends because I don't always get that help.
