Pip Renewal/Reassessment 71 year old male was created by BUGGERLUGS
Hi all, I have been on IB with DLA since 1993 then it all changed where i had to endure 2 medical assessments and two tribunal hearings which I won.

Thing is, I am a 72 year old Man now and my PIP is due to finish this year.

I don't know what happens then. Does anyone have any Idea what will happen?

This is a big worry for me as I am still ill and suffer Very Low Mood And Depression

on top of all of the other problems that I still Have.

Regards.

Hi Neil

I don't know when your award is due to end, but you need to ring the DWP and ask if you are going to be sent a review form. If a Tribunal decided on your last PIP award, the DWP may say that your award will come to an end and because you are over State Pension Age - you would no longer be able to claim PIP - you would have to apply for Attendance Allowance. I say 'may' because the DWP still doesn't appear to have a consistent approach and some people have been sent review forms after a Tribunal and others have not.

If you're told that they are going to send you a review form, then you will go through the normal review process. Form, assessment, decision.

I would ring the DWP (if you can) as soon as possible so you know what's going on.

Hi BIS, thank you very much for your very comprehensive reply. My wife did get attendance support until she received her pension then it stopped.

I will get my wife to get in touch with the DWP and see what is going on. I actually thought that I had PIP for life as when I was awarded IB I was awarded it for life.

Cheers

Hi Buggerlugs

You are not alone in thinking that you have PIP for life having been awarded it for previous benefits, but PIP does not offer an indefinite award. Some people have 'ongoing' awards which last for 10 years.

Sorry to bother you at all.

When my Pip award finishes later this year what can I claim for? as I am still the same regarding my health as when I first got the award.

So, any other benefits out there that I claim for, as my wife is my carer.

Regards.

Hi Buggerlugs

Have you confirmed that your PIP is going to come to an end? If you have - then as already mentioned you can claim for Attendance Allowance. You should talk to a specialist welfare advisor and see if there is anything else you can claim for.
