Partners and Universal Credit was created by BH9983
Hello,

I want to ask about how to prove I do not have a partner for my universal credit claim. Although I live with the man who is the father of my children, I do not have any relations with him.

We do not speak, we do not sleep in the same bed and we do not share expenses. We are also not civil partners.

We only live at the same address out of convenience, he owns the house and I have nothing under my name. (I do intend on moving out once I can get accommodation I can afford).

My question is, what steps should I take to prove he is not my partner to DWP (I consider myself to be single) and what kind of evidence do you thing would be useful?

Any help would be appreciated as I am in a difficult and rare (ish) position.

Thank you :)

Hi BH,

Oooohhhhh that's a tough one. Maybes access to your social media for the DWP could assist?
I really don't know with this one, especially as you're doing things in the same household financially in order to survive.
I would ask your work coach, and put it across similar to how you have on here.
It's like a case of you not having to prove you're single - they have to prove you're not (which if you are, then surely it's not right denying you both single persons UC?)

It's not a nice situation to have to try prove I can well imagine.

Regards, Chris.
