UC asking to look at bank statements - legal?

Hi folks, I was "randomly selected" by the UC "review team" this year, which meant being asked to scan and send in a number of things including my tenancy agreement and bank statement's for three months - which I felt uncomfortable about - is this legal? Can I refuse? - more to the point if it happens again, without being penalized in some way.. Thankyou very much for your help.

Hi Miss Munch

Yes it is legal, DWP are verifying that you do not have any savings that you have not declared as any savings over £6k will affect your entitlement.

You can refuse to show your bank statement, but your claim will be suspended until you comply, after a month your claim would be closed.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
