Had a visit from the Occupational Therapist at my home

Hello!

Today I had my visit from the Occupational Therapist at my home to assess my needs.
She determined that I needed an inflatable chair in the bath to help lower and raise me and also handles on the shower and toilet. She advised of a special chair for the loo, perching stool for the kitchen, an alarm to wear for when I fall and has referred me for a specialised bed.

I'm awaiting her report, do I send this to the DWP too?

Many thanks!

Hi Ember.beanie,
Whilst the suggested gadgets might make life more easy, they still may not allow you to do descriptor activities safely, within a reasonable time, to an acceptable standard and repeatedly- all as required under the regulations. If this is the case, then you may end up with less points than you deserve if you send in the OT report.
However, it seems likely that you need various gadgets across several descriptor areas, which does suggest a high level of disability. On this basis the OT report should be persuasive to DWP.
Make sure you explain why you need each gadget, how it helps you do the descriptor activity, how it allows you to be safe, or perform the activity in a reasonable time or perhaps make things easier to allow repetition. With items outside descriptor activities such as the specialised bed explain why this has been suggested, and that it shows eg restricted mobility or a propensity to falls which could be relevant for safety, or general mobility issues.
Refer to the report and any relevant comments within.
Make sure that you write your name and NI number on each page that you send in.
I hope this helps.

Hi!

Thankyou so much for really helpful reply.

I have to say I'm abit confused ( sorry I have dyselxia so it does have to be black and white with me) do you think I should send in the report? Considering you mentioning I would be loosing points when I'm so desperate for help with my mobility I really don't want to risk losing points 😢😢😢 thankyou again
