Uc bank statements was created by Kezzakezza
So I hear that universal credit have been asking lots of people for 4 months of bank statements.
I'm aware they didn't hey court approval to snoop into everyone's accounts. So this is what they are imposing instead.

For the legally minded out there .....

1, do they have a right to that info under data protection ?

2. If you have to provide them statements Can you redact your outgoings? as potentially they are only supposed to be gathering info on income.??

3. Who's challenged it. Or are there any challenges upcoming in regards to this.

( its alot for people who are claiming as most have chronic disabling conditions. For me the change over from child benefit to UC has made made me really ill. )

Hi Kezzakezza,
The DWP have been requesting copies of bank statements for as long as I can remember ( 20 years ). The DWP have to comply with GDPR data protection regulations which means that your information is kept confidential and stored safely.
As far as redaction is concerned, It depends on what Is the reason they want the bank statements. So If deprivation of capital is being investigated outgoings may be requested. I would ask them first if you can redact your expenditure as you don't think it is relevant.
I'm afraid I can't answer your third question regarding legal challenges. You may find that information in one of the online legal forums.
Hope this helps,
David
