Migration From IS to UC was created by Audionekenobi
Hello all
Sorry I am not sure if my post was published so I have written again.
I receive high rate PIP for care and mobility.
I receive carers allowance for my son with special needs.
He cannot do mental tasks so I help him and he helps with the physical tasks I cannot do.
I have to migrate to UC - have had a letter.
I am just not clear on the process so have a few questions:
I understand I will lose the carers as on UC you can’t look after someone and be disabled yourself ?
On the initial application do I state it’s a managed migration and what I get in benefits and then they will offer me the transitional protection ?
Will I get put in a support group automatically or do I have to wait 3 months or however long the assessment period is ?
Do I get a doctors note now or wait until they send me the form U50 ?
Many thanks

Hi Audionekenobi,
Could you please give me some more information. Did you previously have a Personal Capability Assessment ( PCA ) for Incapacity Benefit or a WCA for ESA ? Have you received any contributions based Benefits such as ESA Conts or New Style ESA?
Thanks,
David

Hi Audionekenobi,
To answer your questions,
" I understand I will lose the carers as on UC you can’t look after someone and be disabled yourself ?"
That is not completely correct. You cannot get both the UC LCWRA element and UC Carers element at the same time. But you can still get Carer's Allowance though as with Income Support it is an overlapping Benefit and is deducted in full. If you are awarded LCWRA you also get a Work Allowance.
"On the initial application do I state it’s a managed migration and what I get in benefits and then they will offer me the transitional protection ?"
The Migration notice should tell you which of your Benefits are going to be stopped and the deadline to claim UC. It should also give you the phone number of the UC Migration Notice helpline. You are eligible for Transitional Protection as long as you complete the UC application before the deadline.
Does your Migration Notice letter give you the Citizens Advice Help to Claim phone number? ( It is usually on page 2 )
"Will I get put in a support group automatically or do I have to wait 3 months or however long the assessment period is ?

UC will tell you when to get a Fit Note and then after 30 days they should send you form UC50.
You will need to have a WCA ( Work Capabilities Assessment ) and that will determine if you are awarded LCWRA ( formerly ESA Support Group )
