Hi
So is the deduction taken off any extra you receive above the esa cont rate that you may receive when you apply for ESA IR?
Also, if I move to ESA IR is there a possibility I will be asked to migrate to UC?
Kind regards

Hi synapse321
Just to clarify things when you get CB ESA this is based on your NI contributions, some claimants are entitled to claim IR ESA on top of their CB ESA. The IR part of ESA is due to entitlements of disability premiums such as SDP and EDP, both of these are means tested.
IR ESA is going, claimants in receipt of IR ESA will be sent a migration letter inviting them to claim UC.

Hi Gary
The part I don't understand is when you say some people are entitled to claim IR ESA on top of their CB ESA. Will this IR ESA then be converted to a full blown UC claim and I will lose my ESA Conts entirely?
Thanks

Hi synapse321
You will keep your CB ESA, this will be paid as usual every fortnight, if eligible you will be invited to apply for UC which will take the place of IR ESA. UC and IR ESA are both means tested benefits, there are no disability premiums when you claim UC.
UC does have an element called LCWRA which is the same as the support group, therefore if you are in the support group, when you apply for UC, you should be placed in the LCWRA group without under going an assessment providing there has been no break in claiming IR ESA and UC.

Hi
When you say there is no break I assume you need to apply for UC before the migration date cut off date?
Is that correct?
Thanks
