UC money drop was created by Navigator
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to help someone who has migrated over from working tax credit to UC, and is still in the first year of the protection period.

She phoned me in tears today stating her UC payment this month has without warning dropped to just £80 per month, or £20 per week,

She is a working disabled person with a severe hearing disability, and works only 18 hours per week.

The DWP are stating she earns too much so 55p is now taken from every pound she earns, yet the other week she was told she needed to earn another £60 a month to be left alone by the JC and not asked to keep attending weekly appointments.

If anyone can help with this, I would appreciate your input, or point me in a direction where she can seek help?

Thanks Navigator.

Hi Navigator,

You talk about your friend being " left alone " by the Jobcentre, for once she could make use of the Jobcentre by going in and asking someone to explain the reduction. She is entitled to do that and also to make a complaint which in DWP jargon is called a Mandatory Reconsideration.
However the 55p in the £1 UC deduction for wages applies to everyone who earn more than their UC Work Allowance.
The " another £60 to be left alone by the JC" refers to the UC Administrative Earnings Threshold ( AET ) which is £892 per monthly Assessment Period. Once she earns above the AET she will not have to meet her Work Coach.
