irESA (support group) managed migration to UC was created by BarbaraG
Hello - I am helping my son with his application made on 23rd October. He has accepted his claimant commitment. He has been given a phone appointment for Tuesday 12th November - please can you tell me what this appointment is for and if I will be able to speak for him if he starts to panic - he is autistic and anything like this sends him into a panic.
Thank you - Barbara Guiver

Hi BarbaraG,
I need some more information regarding his current " work " status with the DWP and also are you his appointee?

Hello David - my son was in the support group when on irESA so as I understand from your helpful guide he should be put into the Limited Capability for Work Related Activity Group when his migration to UC completes. As I also understand he should not be required to satisfy any Work Seeking Activity and should be placed in the No-Work Related requirements group on UC. So, I was just wondering why we have to have a phone call and what they will asking him. It will involve me in a 75 mile roundtrip to be with him as he panics on such occasions. Kind Regards - Barbara

Hi BarbaraG,
I think it is because the previous Tory government scrapped the concept of Benefit entitlement and changed it to contract and responsibility, hence the Claimant Commitment. So that is why he needs to verbally discuss/accept the Commitment. Some people though can request a home visit from the DWP Visiting Team.
