Hi Hi I’m asking a question on behalf of my partner. We don’t live together no financial ties etc. He’s 66 and has been very ill since aged 29, has been on legacy sickness benefits and now is on ESA, SDP and HB. He’s been invited to take his state pension as he’s eligible in April. A couple of questions, 1 Does he have to apply for pension credit to replace SDP or does it kick in when his state pension does ? 2 what happens re HB and council tax reduction in the change over ? Thanks so much in advance.
Your partner will be invited to apply for his State Pension in February 3 months before he reaches his state pension age, In answer to your questions; 1) At the same time as applying for SP he needs to apply for Guarantee Pension Credit to get the SDP, I assume he receives the daily living component of PIP. 2) HB and CTS will carry on, if awarded GPC then he should get full HB and CTS.
