Migration letter was created by cathytonyjesse
I have called the migration helpline to ask for an extension they have told me that if you get any tax credits like I do then they are no longer giving any extension no matter what the reason. There is also a mistake on my letter it says I will carry on getting housing benefit as I am in temporary housing which is wrong, I have always been in private rented and I am worried this will cause a problem , they told me to contact the council and get them to alter their system but my deadline is 31/1/25 and I know it takes the council weeks and weeks to even reply to an email

Hi cathytonyjesse,
I would phone the Citizens Advice Help to Claim phone number which should be on page 2 of your Migration letter and ask for their assistance.
This is the recommendation of the service from a Forum member -

I did call the citizens advice help to claim , they told me they would try and get an extension and she called through to the UC migration team and joined me on the call so the information I have put in my post above is what we were told on the call between the citizens advice, UC and me on the line
The citizens advice were very nice but they could not get anywhere with UC either, UC insist there are no extensions for anyone getting tax credits, they said they stopped giving those out on the 10th January so they said it is not possible, which would be bad enough without the added complications about the housing benefit
I feel like I will end up losing out financially on the transitional protection and I don't know who can help

I had called the citizens advice help to claim and she called through to UC with me on the phone , they said there are no extensions available now for anyone who gets tax credits as they will totally stop at the end of March.
I explained all about the many difficulties I have , explained that I also get PIP and the citizens advice person went over all of this with them and she agreed that she thought my situation was very difficult even without the problem with the housing benefit but all UC said was for me to contact the council and that I need to make my claim for UC
It is so stressful and very upsetting, I feel like I will end up losing out on the transitional protection and I don't know who can help

Hi cathytonyjesse,
Citizens Advice Help to Claim have their own Transitional Protection calculator. They should be able to give you an estimate of your Transitional Protection.

But UC say I cannot claim housing costs at the moment , when that gets sorted out with the council and they update UC it will be considered a change of circumstances and so my transitional protection will be swallowed up as I will then be getting housing costs so my claim will look like it is more if you see what I mean ?
