ESA To UC Migration was created by KeithW
Hi All,

Well a brown enveloped dropped on my door mat this morning, an "invitation" to apply for UC.

Even though I knew this was coming it has still knocked me for six and made me feel unwell, anxious and scared.

I have read the B&W Successful ESA To UC Managed Migration guide, taken note of what I will need etc.

For now I have decided not to rush and have put things to one side so I can gather myself together and get myself in a place mentally to deal with this.

I have set a reminder in my calendar for 1½ months time to start the process.

I intend to use this thread to document my progress and thought process as I try and deal with this.

I do have a couple of questions for now though if I may?

I really do struggle with budgeting and this will throw me into a right turmoil so....

1. Can I request that I continue to get paid every 2 weeks?

2. Can I request that they pay any housing element direct to my landlord?

If yes, when and how do I make these requests?

I know I am heading for a sleepless night tonight, can't be helped I guess.

I am not going to rush though, or do anything rash, I will take my time. as much as I am allowed to.

Thanks in advance.

All the best,

Keith

Hi KeithW

Yes you can request both. Here is the information from the DWP-

Who can request a managed payment to landlord and
Who can request a more frequent payment--

If the claimant is making the request, this can be by:

using their online Universal Credit account
talking to their work coach or case manager
phoning Universal Credit on 0800 328 5644

Also if you have any worries about the whole move to UC have you seen this recommendation of the Citizens Advice Help to Claim service by our Forum member VIA? Their phone number is on page 2 of your Managed Migration letter.

Let me know how you get on.

HI David,

Many thanks for your reply, it is much appreciated.

I did read the thread and info about the CAB Help to claim service, I am not sure I want to use it though.

I have another question if I may.

On reading posts about the process of going from ESA to UC I have seen mention of Ecospend.

What exactly is Ecospend?

From what I gather it is some kind of software you have to let access your bank account?

Do we have to allow this?

Can we refuse to allow them to use this?

I am keen to find out more about Ecospend and my legal rights concerning it's use.

Thanks in advance,

Keith

Hi Ecospend

At present your data can only be verified by Ecospend with your permission.
Here is the information regarding Ecospend's contract with the DWP.

Is some of your post missing?

So there should be no issues if I refuse to give them permission to use Ecospend?

Hi KeithW

I cannot say because at present the Ecospend verification is only in Test and Learn status in selected DWP areas. But if you refuse permission your data will need to be verified alternatively.
