DLA renewal refused was created by melady
I have been receiving HRM & LRC for the last six years as I am suffering from ME & chronic fybromyalgia. I am in chronic severe pain , Housebound and often unable to get out of bed for weeks on end.My award is due to expire next month and I received the new short 4 page version of the DLA form. Unfortunately I filled it in before I FOUND THIS SITE. I was not worried as the last 2 renewals I had no problems with but not this time. Silly me, after they received a report from my doctor & I had the Atos medical examination at home in the bedroom with me in bed they told me I didnt qualify for anything and the previous decisions were wrong.WHAT!!!! I would just like to say that after reading other peoples stories on the forum I realised I was not alone I didnt feel quite so suicidal. I have told them I want to appeal and will use your suggestions as I try to navigate through the process.thanks, Elaine

Hi Elaine

I don't know much about DLA or what's required to get it. Any intelligent person would conclude that you should be entitled to it, so I'm not surprise that it did not worry you. I didn't know you need a barrister to claim benefit until mine was stopped.

I'm sure you will have a much fairer chance on appeal.

Best wishes and good luck.

Derek.

Hi Elaine

I too had the 4 page short form to complete and mine was successful but i was a member of this site and it helped me a lot. I dont know if it would work but it could be worth sendind in additional details telling them how your disability affects you in great detail, also if possible a report from your GP/Consultant as it sounds as tho they have made a decision just on your reply in the short form and your medical that was carried out at home. If you could also get in contact with a welfare right worker as you do need some support with this and will need to act pretty fast. Please dont quote me on this but i dont see why they wont relook at your claim if you send all these details in. The 4 page form is a con and this site have got some excellent advice on how to approach it and be successful.

I wasnt aware that DLA dont keep your previous claims, after a short period they destroy them so when you fill in the short form and you are limited as to what you can fit in that is all they have and i am certain it is a tactic to take us off DLA. Please fight it all the way and keep in contact, please let us know how you get on.

Kind regards
Julie

Can I ask if anyone has any advice for me? I did send off my GL24 to appeal the decision not to renew my HRM and LRC DLA, as detailed in my first post.I also sent as much new information as possible to support my claim within the time limit of two weeks. I have now received a very supportive report from the doctor who has helped me with my illness for the last 8 yrs.My question is would it be better to send it to the Tribunal Service now and ask if they would include it in my appeal & send a copy to DWP or is it better just to take the report with me on the day of my appeal? Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Melady,

Send a copy to the tribunals service and a copy to the DWP asking the DWP to look again at their decision in the light of the new evidence.

Good luck,

Steve
