Industrial Injury Disablement Benefit

Thanks 'Survivor' - its hard as med route is deblitating in itself, and have seen many specialists. As am now 'chronic' not many routes left, so did CBT as last chance saloon, which doesn't make pain go, but helps with 'pacing' - pacing doesn't help me to work! So sad for the life I thought I would have in comparison for what I have in actuality.

IIDB was preceeded by 'Workmen's Compensation' and to some extent still retains a male/heavy industry bias. My own experience with the benefit is not related to physical injury but I would say try to submit some expert evidence on RSI to stengthen your case. CAB might be a good place to start, not least because they have access to law centre advisors.

I have a sense of loss more often than I'd like. Over the last week a couple of things have happened that I have found difficult to cope with and I have berated myself for struggling to cope with them, before reminding myself that that is one of the reasons that I am on benefits. It's not nice to be confronted with the effects of our physical or mental impairments. I hope that it is of some small comfort to you to be able to remind yourself that you are not alone in facing this. With best wishes.

I used to deal with IIDB appeals when I was a WRO, but I'm now 69 years old and retired, so can't remember much about how they worked.

You may find this link to Chapter 10 of Neligans Digest on case law for IIDB to be informative Industrial injuries: injury benefit and disablement benefit

You could also try a Google search 'industrial injuries benefit tribunals' as it seems to throw up some worthwhile links.

Also, are you, or were you a trade union member at the time of your accident, if so they may be able to assist you. If not try Community Legal Advice
