Hi Potter, mine had nothing to do with ESA, I was going before I started getting ESA. Am still going now and if I am not well enough to go, I just ring up and cancel. I have had 12wks group and 20wks one to one and yes they have helped me to understand what is happening to me, but I do not know if it will help when I am left to get on with it on myu own. I feel my therapist is an anchor for me.

Best wishes and good luck Bubs x

thanks for the replies.

just a few more questions.

1 how many times do you have to go to these sessions and over what time period.

2 is there any chance of being excused from these tests on your GPs advice.

3 and if you are compelled to go but fail to attend then what sanctions will be taken against you.

1. When I had CBT it was intially weekly and then went to fortnightly, in total I had 26 sessions.

2. There are circumstances under which you can be excused the medical, you can read about the in the Understanding ESA guide in the Members section, page 10 onwards cover this topic.

3. Failure to attend the medical (WCA), without good reason can ultimately result in a removal of the benefit.

I had CBT about five years ago and as far as I was concerned, it was a complete waste of time and didn't work. In fact, it actually made me worse!

Although CBT is peddled as a panacea for mental health problems, whilst it may work for some people, it doesn't necessarily work for everybody.
