Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

For most benefits, there are restrictions on you leaving the country, the general rule if you are thinking of going abroad, is to contact the DWP and ask whether it is OK.can anyone tell me the answer to this question which is in the inf4 leaflet(income support)

When I was investigated for 'suspected fraud' the very nice lady explained to me that..'yes, you are entitled to go on holiday' when on benefits...HOWEVER..if you are on JSA...going abroad for a holiday means that 'technically' you are not available to work and therefore unentitled to benefits for that period of time away and need to inform the JC about your absence to have your money stopped.
How that applies to other beenfits though..like say ESA or DLA...am not sure. Maybe a call to the Benefits Information Hotline will elicit a correct response depending on your circumstances.
Also, don't try taking a chance...she also informed me they regularly run 'passenger name' & 'scanned passport' name checks against benefit claiment names to see who is trying to fool the system
