Please Help Me was created by voila23
hello,
I wonder if you could give me some advice.
I receive IB (indefinite) and DLA HR (indefinite both components) under the old system, I understand that this could all change with the new system.
My husband has been my carer for the past 8 years, he has always worked shifts and therefore was able to take care of me, although we never claimed carers allowance as he earned more than what is allowed.
He is very likely to be made redundant, so on top of the sheer panic and worry over my IB &DLA when/if they are reviewed, we are now looking at severe financial hardship.
Add this to the chronic pain and disability that I have, this redundancy is just the last straw.
what I am asking is, if my husband signs on for JSA can he also claim for carers allowance?
if he can, would claiming for carers allowance either reduce my benefits or even flag them up to be looked into?
are any savings taken into account? the only income would be JSA & Carers Allowance (for husband) and IB & DLA for me, but we do have some savings that were supposed to be for retirement.
we are terrified of doing the wrong thing, all this worry is becoming unbearable.
I know lots of people are in the same position, but I am frightened of what our futures hold, and have nobody to turn too.
thank you for taking the time to read my 1st post and I apologize if I should already know this, but I am getting in a right state in this minefield that is the benefit system!
many thanks in advance for any help

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

You need to get face to face advice from an advisor who can look at all aspects of your benefits and explain what the impact of your suggestions would be.
