lifetime awards

hi could anyone answerthis question . my sister who suffers from rhumatoid arthritis was awarded dla for life some years ago. will she be put through the new reassesments

The government has said that it intends that everyone who applies for PIP will be reassessed regularly.

The draft regulations have a section on length of award

2 year if they think you will get better

5 or 10 years where changes are less likely but possible. For example, where some improvement is possible over time or where the needs of the individual are likely to increase

and if your very lucky "ongoing awards"

no change one way or the other likely

Having looked at the document, I don't think that Award length and re-assessment timeframes are synonymous.

The way it reads to me is that you can have a 5 year award but still have some form of assessment every year.

I think the final reading is this week, so we'll have to wait and see.

I agree but it also reads and says
"As part of the objective assessment, the trained independent assessor will provide a recommendation to the Department on the duration of the award, based on the individual’s particular circumstances, the evidence that has been gathered (including that provided by the claimant) and the likelihood of their condition changing. We will provide a framework for award durations to assist the assessor when providing their recommendation to the Department"

so it seems that they are saying if the assessment and evidance is there the award will be longer

Don't forget the 'independent' assessor will be none other than Atos, so goodness only knows what will happen with any future PIP awards!
