Dla Medical was created by Anne
Hi everyone I would just like to know what to expect when the doctor comes to my home to do a medical for dla. I applied for dla back in sept but was refused with no medical. After receiving some advice I applied again at the start of june as I had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and my symptoms had got worse. I received a letter yesterday saying the doctor will visit on 1st July. Does anyone think this is a good thing and I am just worried that if I am really bad that day I won,t be able to get out of bed. Your comments would be most appreciated

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

In the first instance please refer to the guide entitled "70 Questions You’re Likely To Be Asked At Your DLA Medical" which may answer your question in the DLA resources.

Hi Anne
I have had two home medicals for DLA, and they both had favourable outcomes. I also have FM, and when I had my first DLA award I had not been diagnosed, proving that it is not what you have, but how your illness affects your life. I have since been diagnosed with Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis, my latest medical was in Jan this year.
Try not to worry, and if you're not well enough to get out of bed, stay there, but the HCP may want to test you on your feet, so perhaps it would be better to sit in a chair. I was in my recliner when the latest medical was carried out.
Oh, and try and get someone to be with you if you can.

If you are really bad on the day of the medical then just stay in your bed !
Do you have someone there that can answer the door and show the visiting doctor into your bedroom?
I would strongly suggest that if you have anyone there that they supervise the medical and make notes for you.
good luck,
Lisa
