ESA result yesterday, work appointment today was created by Corrie Deighton
Hi - I got my medical result yesterday, and have been granted ESA but am in the work related activity group. I intend to appeal, as I can't either stand or sit for more than 3 minutes or so and believe I should be in the support group.
Anyway, in today's post I have received a letter calling me for an interview at the jobcentre, at a time when I am normally asleep and in bed, and stating it could last an hour.
Help!
Do I have to attend? Would flicking in an appeal immediately allow me to cancel the appointment?
Any help gratefully welcomed.
Cheers
Toad.

Hi Toad
I'm afraid the interview is mandatory. You could try phoning and asking for a telephone interview but there is no guarantee they will accept this.
As for flicking in a quick appeal - it would not result in an automatic cancellation but you could tell them over the phone that you have or intend to appeal and ask for the interviews to be deferred. Again there is no guarantee that this will suffice but it often does.
You probably are already aware that failing to attend without good cause will result in benefit suspension or supersession so make sure you get any cancellation in writing.
Good luck
Derek

Thanks Derek. It's useful to know what has to be done.
Cheers
