Do you mean if it is just that person saying it or if it is something they are being told to say by their superiors.
Two members of JCP staff told me this, both based at JCP Plymouth

Yes, that's what I meant. If I was complaining, as well as complaining that the information you were given is incorrect, I would ask for an explanation of where the information came from.

Clearly the staff are poorly trained and they may have been given the wrong information in their guidance notes, if they have any.

I think you have it right re training.
When i told a JSP operator a few weeks ago that i was not happy with the information i had been given and that i was contacting my MP, she said i hope you do, it might help us. We have not got enough people to cope with the workload, and training seems to have stopped.

Believe it or not formal staff training at the DHSS (now the DWP), was scrapped by the Tories as long ago as 1980.

From what I can see, staff training in any way shape or form has never been reintroduced since 1980!

It's nice to know that they are aware of their inadequate/non-existent training, but it raises the question, why give crucial advice regarding benefit entitlement that you know has a high probability of being incorrect?

Could she not simply say: Sorry, haven't a clue. You need to see a benefit advisor as we are not trained to deal with benefits?
