I am just in from seeing my GP,explained about wheelchair, asked if he would support me, he said he would but was unwilling to document it further, he advised letting the appeal process unfold,he then started to talk about people who manage to operate computers with their mouths and other disabled folk who manage full time employment with severe disabilities.I think we are starting to witness the end of the walfare system.

If your an expert like Prof Hawkins and have lots of money to pay for full time helpers and also have research staff too, but can you see the DWP giving you or me all that sort of support ? I agree the welfare system is coming to an end :(

Hi Headinawheelchair and Marcali
I would think that if you can definitely say to the HCP (also on the ESA50) that you can only go "x" metres or cannot manage one at all, before you start experiencig severe discomfort, then it will carry more weight than saying I don't think so, especially if you can say you have researched the matter by actually trying it. Get in there before it is suggested.
I also agree that supporting evidence from a GP or Consultant would help but that's unlikely, just look at Lester's post. GP's don't usually know how your disabilities really affect you.
Regards
Peter

Even if you told the HCP you can only go such and such a distance in a wheelchair because i had a dummy run other day nurse before i came to the medical, that thats going to really make a difference.

I will be applying for the dreaded ESA soon. I suffer from back apin and sciatica tat makes walking very painful. sitting is even more painful than standing, which would(in my mind) preclude the use of a wheelchair. Does it seem reasonable to state this on the form?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Sounds very reasonable to me.
