claiming carers allowance was created by woodsie
Hi!
Quick question.
With the current turmoil the Government has generated and the ruthless manner in which they are endeavouring to claw back money i am a little dubious about my wife claiming carers allowance(as she has just lost one of her three jobs taking her earnings below £100/week);and my question is whether the claim will trigger a re assessment of my DLA/Middle rate care.
I hope this isnt to daft a question its just we have just lost her entitlement to working tax credits and we cant afford to lose any more.
Or am i just being paranoid.
Thanks in advance!

hi matchseller
all i would say is just think about what you could loose, as my partner was getting carers allowance until my dla renewal. i was getting middle rate care and high rate mobility, when i renewed my dla they dropped my care to low, so my partner could not claim her careres allowance any more, even though all my disabilities had gotten a lot worse not better. this seems to be what is happening to most claimants when they renew.just think very carefully weigh up how much you could loose aginst what you would gain, in the monetry sense. dla seems to be trying to save as much as possible. also think about you could loose your dla altogether. i hope this helps a little bit
best regards darrenay

You can never be 100% sure that a further claim within the family won't trigger a review of your entitlement, but since this wouldn't be a change in circumstances, it shouldn't affect your entitlement.

Do bear in mind that if you get a severe disability premium on another benefit, this will be adversely affected if your wife claims Carers Allowance.

If in doubt, get a full better-off calculation from your local welfare advice service or CABL.

Hi matchseller

As far as reassessment of your MRC DLA is concerned, hopefully not. However you should read the link regarding Carer's Allowance -
