A Benefits and Work member claims that an Atos cheque for travel expenses for a PIP medical, has bounced.   She alleges her daughter is still waiting for her expenses to be paid and that the DWP and Atos argued about whose responsibility it was.{jcomments on}

Our member, who does not wish to be identified, told us:

“My daughter went for Atos assessment for PIP earlier this month. At the assessment she was given a form for completion which she had to send back to Atos not the DWP.

“When the cheque bounced she telephoned Atos who told her not their responsibility and she was then told to phone the DWP, which she did. They then told her it was not their responsibility and that it was Atos. Confused and distress by now  - she has depression as a result of her medical condition  - she telephoned Atos back and it was them that then told her their finance department did not have enough funds to clear the cheque the reason being that they had such a massive amount of claimants claiming their expenses in one go!

“My daughter still does not know whether she is going to get her expenses or not. It may not be a lot to Atos but it is a big part of her budget.”

A spokesperson for Atos told Benefits and Work:

“We are not aware of any issues with issuing travel expenses or bouncing cheques.  If a claimant wants to query their expenses they can contact our customer services team.”
