Hi
How long after the assessment do you have to wait to apply to get a copy of the report? and to who do you apply. Does asking for a copy affect their decision in any way?

Hi domgem,

How long you have to wait depends on which benefit is involved. For PIP, you should be able to request it a few days after the assessment. For ESA the report is rarely released before the decision.

For each benefit, you need to contact DWP, doing so has no effect on the eventual decision (the call centre workers have no input in the decision and no direct contact with the Decision Makers).

Thank you for your speedy reply. Another question please, who are the decision makers? Are they a panel of medical people or are they people who rely on the asserors opinion?

The Decision Makers are DWP employees. Just one of them will look at the claim, they have no medical training and go largely on what the assessor has said. This is one reason for making sure that you have explained everything in detail. There is no point saying 'I have x, therefore I cannot do y or z' as the DM will not have the background knowledge to understand why this is so.
