I live in England and only know how things work south of the border. You might find we have a member who can tell us if things work differently north of it.
I can understand your reticence in sharing personal information with someone you know, but I am not sure that there is another route. When I email our MP she has an automatic reply which says
‘If you are a constituent of xxx, please ensure that you have included your full name, and address as Parliamentary regulations will not allow me to take up your issue if you are not a constituent. If you have not included this information please resend your original e-mail including them to facilitate a response. If your concerns are particularly urgent, please telephone my constituency office.’
Now I happen to know that when ‘she’ takes up issues on our behalf it is nearly always a member of her office staff that does most of the work, so it is unlikely that she gets personally involved with individual cases. There is another part to her automatic email response which says that she receives over 1000 emails a week, so which supports this theory.
My only suggestion, and I have no idea if this would work, is that you contact your MSP and see if they can help. You could try contacting Therese Coffey, but perhaps because our MP is so good, I have never needed to try this, so cannot share any experience.
Hoping our members will have the perfect answer for you…. Catherine
